August Heinrich Luhman was born in Germany on January 15, 1854 and came to the United States at age 20. He married Caroline (Montiefel?), born in Germany in 1860, and they had six children: Emma, Otto, William, Anna, Robert, and Edward. August worked as Sexton of Lakeside Cemetery in Muskegon, Michigan and was very active in the community. Caroline died in 1894 and August married Annie (last name unknown), who was born in 1860. She died in 1913, and August married his third wife, Rose Akins Bowen. August and Rose had a daughter, Ruth.
